Wiki Biography of Vin Scully

Vincent Edward Scully is an American sportscaster best known for commentating for the Los Angeles Dodgers in Major League Baseball. He was born in The Bronx, New York. Vin was born on November 29, 1927, and is of Irish descent. Vin has been a professional sports commentator since 1950, and is considered one of the best in the country.

Vin Scully is a well-known sports announcer, thus one could question how wealthy he is right now. Vin’s net worth was estimated to be $5 million as of early 2016. His involvement in sports and the media as a sportscaster, which he has done for more than half a century, is, without a doubt, his primary source of income. His work as a play-by-play announcer on television and radio has also contributed significantly to his net worth.

Vin Scully has a net worth of $5 million dollars

Vin attended Fordham Preparatory School while growing up in Washington Heights and The Bronx. As a schoolboy, he was drawn to the profession by listening to radio sports broadcasts. But, before pursuing his passion, Vin served in the United States Navy for two years before beginning his career as a journalist and student broadcaster at Fordham University. He also assisted in the founding of FM radio station WFUV while still in university. He also played baseball for the Fordham Rams and worked as a radio announcer at university games.

Vin was eventually signed to CBS Radio Network in 1949, and his first assignment was to cover college football games. Scully joined the Brooklyn Dodgers – as they were known at the time – in 1950 and began announcing their games on television and radio, alongside other sportscasters Red Barber and Connie Desmond. He became well-known for his honest reporting approach, and he became an important member of the Dodgers. Later, when they relocated to Los Angeles, Vin continued with the team and worked as a game announcer in Los Angeles.

Vin’s net worth began to soar as his game descriptions got increasingly popular in Southern California. Although his career as a baseball sportscaster blossomed, he maintained his credentials in football as well, commentating on NFL games for CBS TV Sports. Later, in 1983, he left CBS due to a disagreement and went to work for NBC, where he stayed for seven years. Vin Scully left NBC to return to the Dodgers and focus on their games. Needless to say, all of these positions and his hard work have paid off well for Vin Scully, who is now a multi-millionaire.

Vin has garnered numerous awards for his services to sports over his career, including the Ford Frick Award from the National Baseball Hall of Fame. He was elected to the National Radio Hall of Fame in 1995. Scully was also elected National Sportscaster of the Year three times, in 1965, 1978, and 1982, by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association. He was also named Californian Sports Broadcaster of the Year 32 times and inducted into the California Sportscasters Hall of Fame in 1991. Obviously, all of these awards and medals have aided in Scully’s rise to popularity in his field.

In terms of his private life, Vin is now residing in Westlake Village, California, with his wife Sandra Hunt, whom he married in 1973. Vin married Joan Crawford in 1958, but she died of an accidental medical overdose in their fifteenth year of marriage, and their son was killed in a helicopter crash later that year. Vin Scully is still calling certain Dodgers games, but he is also enjoying his semi-retirement, with a current net worth of $5 million to support him.
