SINGAPORE: Man who raped dead girl’s daughter sentenced to prison and flogging: – A 43-year-old man who raped his dead girlfriend’s daughter after giving her an alcoholic drink was sentenced to 13 years in prison and 12 strokes of the cane on Monday (March 8).
At the time of the crime in 2019, the victim was 14 years old and the man was 41. She treated him like a father.
The perpetrator pleaded guilty in the High Court to one count of rape and sexual assault by penetration.
His name cannot be released to protect the identity of the victim.
The victim treated the perpetrator like a father
The man worked as a cleaner and lived with his brother and mother. He was in a relationship with the victim’s deceased mother, although the couple never married.
The mother had a total of three children. The victim’s older half-sister and younger half-brother were the man’s fathers. The victim never met her biological father.
While her mother was still alive, the victim, her two half-siblings, a man and her mother lived together in her apartment for several years. The victim considered the man to be her father and addressed him as such.
After the victim’s mother died in 2014, the man and the victim maintained contact, although they did not live together. She also visited the apartment of his mother, whom she considered her own grandmother.

On July 5, 2019, the man bought alcoholic drinks for himself and the injured party, and then went to a cafe for lunch. She wasn’t too concerned about it and drank about half of the bottle, which contained a small amount of alcohol. They then took a bus to his mother’s apartment.
Shortly after arriving, the man’s mother and brother left the apartment. The victim was lying on the floor watching television and fell asleep shortly thereafter.
While she was lying on the floor, the man closed the doors and windows of the apartment and put his arms around her waist. When she woke up, he made her take off her pants and panties, then raped and attacked her, telling her he loved her and wanted to marry her. She was frozen in fear and crying.
The victim then went to the toilet and sent a text message to her friend saying she had been raped. Later, after the man and the victim went to nearby stores, the victim hailed a taxi and returned to the shelter where he was staying. On the way, she also called a social worker and told her she had been raped.
The social worker and her supervisors took her to the hospital for tests, and investigators found the man’s DNA on the victim’s underwear.
After the incident, the victim had nightmares and suffered from guilt, but after therapy she felt better.
Deputy prosecutors Han Ming Kuang and Delicia Tan argued for the verdict.
“This case strikes at the very conscience of every civilized society. To satisfy his perverse carnal instincts, the defendant completely and thoroughly abused the victim’s trust in him as a fatherly figure when he sexually abused her. The defendant’s deviant behavior was simply disgusting,” prosecutors said.
For rape, the man faces up to 20 years in prison, a fine and flogging.
