Authorities allege that Shameka Lockett’s husband, Ronald Lockett Jr., murdered his wife on the evening of Christmas Eve. According to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, investigators have accused a 39-year-old man from Lakeland of the first-degree murder of his wife. Ronald Lockett Jr. was arrested on the charges. On Saturday, December 24, 2022, a family member of Shameka Lockett went to her home on West Patterson Street in Lakeland to check on Shameka and discovered her shot to death. This is according to the deputies who were called to the scene.
The investigation team found out that Ronald Lockett was barred from having any contact with Shameka as part of the conditions of his pretrial release for aggravated battery and domestic abuse. According to the authorities, he broke those terms when he drove his wife back to their residence at approximately 1:30 in the morning after picking her up from her place of employment. Family members who were present at the time of the investigation informed the investigators that they heard the couple bickering, followed by a loud noise that sounded like a pop.
Authorities located Ronald Lockett
The following day, detectives located Ronald Lockett at a separate residence in the city of Lakeland where he had been hiding. Lockett admitted that he picked Shameka up from her job and drove her home, but he denied having any role in her untimely passing in any way.
Lockett has a history of committing 10 felonies and 24 misdemeanors, including numerous battery charges for domestic violence, burglary, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, driving under the influence of alcohol, providing false information to a law enforcement officer, resisting an officer, fleeing from law enforcement, possession of marijuana, failing to appear in court, and violating probation.
