UPDATE
Suspect arrested by police
A man from Leesburg who was engaged in a gunshot that took place this morning in the Dulles Town Center Mall Food Court has been apprehended and charged by the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office. Alan W. Colie, age 31, was taken into custody and charged with aggravated malicious wounding, use of a handgun in the commission of a felony, and firing a firearm while inside a building. These charges stem from an incident in which Mr. Colie shot another individual inside of a building.
The victim and Colie had a conversation in the food court before the shooting, which led to their confrontation. At about 11:57 a.m., the LCSO got the first call stating that a shooting had happened at the Dulles Town Center mall. Deputies swiftly responded, arriving on the site within three minutes of the call, and they are currently investigating the incident.
Victim transported to hospital
Upon entering the shopping center, deputies quickly apprehended the suspect and took him into custody at approximately 12:02 PM. The body of an adult male victim with a gunshot wound to the abdomen was discovered outside of the shopping mall. After receiving medical attention from deputies and personnel of the Loudoun County Combined Fire and Rescue System (LC-CFRS), the victim was taken to a nearby hospital for further treatment of their injuries.
It does not appear at this time that the suspect and the victim knew each other. This is the most likely scenario at this time. Deputy sheriffs from the LCSO also searched the entirety of the shopping mall to ensure that no further suspects or victims were present. The administration of the Dulles Town Center decided to close the mall for the remaining hours of the day.
