World Mental Health Day – World Mental Health Day is commemorated on October 10 every year at the initiative of the World Federation for Mental Health (WFMH) to increase awareness about mental health issues. Since its beginning in 1992, the day, dedicated to eradicating the stigma around mental health, has been commemorated every year across the globe.

In the year 1994, Eugene Brody, who was serving at the time as Secretary General of WFMH, proposed the utilization of a theme. During that particular year, the topic that was being focused on was “Improving the Quality of Mental Health Services throughout the World.” Since that time, the awareness program has shifted its focus to a different topic each year.

Over the years, some of the themes have been Women and Mental Health (1996), Children and Mental Health (1997), Mental and Physical Health across the Life Span (2005), Depression: A Global Crisis (2012), and Mental Health Promotion and Suicide Prevention (2019). (2019).

This year’s theme is “Make Mental Health and Well-Being for All a Global Priority,” and it is being followed throughout the entire event.

Although the epidemic has already taken a toll on our mental health and is continuing to do so, the potential to reconnect through World Mental Health Day 2022 will give us with an opportunity to re-kindle our efforts to safeguard and improve mental health. This is what the World Health Organization’s (WHO) website now says.
