Woody Davis Death – Norman “Woody” Davis, age 85, has passed away. He died at the Cottages Assisted Living Memory Care in Shawano on Tuesday, February 28, 2023. Woody was born in Alexander City, Alabama on January 21, 1938, to the late Earl Woodroe and Francis (Louis) Davis. After completing his high school studies in Waterloo, Wisconsin, he went on to study education at the University of Houston for one and a half years before moving to the University of Wisconsin at La Crosse. Melrose, Wisconsin served as the setting for Woody’s first teaching and coaching jobs.
In Melrose, on the 23rd of June in 1962, he wed Donna Petterson. The ceremony took place there. Woody and Donna made the move to Shawano in 1964, and Woody began his career as a teacher and coach there, remaining there until his retirement in 1998. Working with the young people of Shawano in various aspects of athletics was something that Woody was very passionate about and dedicated his life to. After he retired, he spent his time attending events hosted by the local community and schools, golfing, playing cards, and socializing with his family and friends.
Woody had the pleasure of serving on the city council for 18 years, during which time he represented Ward 3 of the city of Shawano. The fact that he was able to lead the 1982 basketball team that he coached to the WIAA State Basketball Tournament was a source of immense pride for him. Woody thought it was a great honor that he was a part of the first group of coaches to be inducted into the Shawano High School Hall of Fame. This accomplishment held a lot of significance for him.
Woody Davis Survived By
Woody is survived by his wife of 60 years, Donna; his sons, Todd (Jean) and Scott; his grandson, Zachary; and his brother Gene (Cathy). He is further survived by several nieces and nephews. Woody is preceded in death by his parents, several in-laws and his sister.
Woody Davis Funeral Arrangement
A gathering for family and friends will take place on March 9, 2023, from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm, at Zion Lutheran Church. A private memorial service will be held at a later date, by Woody’s wishes. In lieu of flowers and other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be directed to the Shawano Athletic Booster Club, Zion Lutheran Church, an Alzheimer’s foundation or a charity of the donor’s choice.
