Authorities recognized the guy who was shot and killed by police outside a Clear Lake Shores house on Wednesday. According to the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office, authorities shot William Wayne Weldon, 46, after he brandished a shotgun at cops outside his Grove Road residence.
Before he was shot, Weldon had been in an hour-long standoff with cops. Around 5 a.m., police were summoned to his residence due to a domestic incident. According to authorities, a SWAT team was sent to the residence after Weldon reportedly opened fire on a police officer.
The SWAT team fired gas canisters into the residence at 9:30 a.m., forcing Weldon outdoors, according to authorities. Weldon emerged from the residence with a shotgun and was fatally shot as he lifted the weapon at cops, according to police. The cop was not hit by gunshots, but was hurt when he jumped off a porch in search of shelter, according to authorities.
The incident is being investigated by the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office. The policemen that shot Weldon’s body have yet to be identified.
