Wil Wegman Death – Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry Information Officer Wil Wegman of Bradford, Ontario is dead. He passed away on Saturday 20th May 2023. He died leaving family, friends and colleagues heartbroken. Ontario Conservation Officers Association shared the news of his passing on Facebook in a post that says “The Ontario Conservation Officers Association is sending its deepest condolences to the Wegman family as we learn of his passing”.
What happened to Wil Wegman?
As at the time this report was made, the specific cause of Wil Wegman’s death has not been known. He attended Seneca College from 1979 to 1981, majoring in Outdoor Recreation Technician, and graduated with that degree. Wil Wegman, who hails from Bradford, Ontario, has been recognized as one of the best ice fishing sticks in all of Canada since the middle of the 1980s. Wil attributes a significant portion of his accomplishments to his long-standing partnership with HT Enterprises, which began in 1987, not long after he first began instructing ice fishing classes at community colleges in the area.
Between the years 1986 and 2006, he was a professor of these evening classes at a number of Seneca and Georgina College locations. When the World Ice Fishing Championships were held in Canada in 1991, Wil was a member of Canada’s National Team. He has finished in the top ten of the Canadian Ice Fishing Championship multiple times and won the Perch Trap Attack that was held on Lake Simcoe in 2006.
Wil Wegman Career
In the MS Perch Tournament held on Lake Simcoe in 2011, Wil and his son Izaak finished in first place, and the following year, when there were twice as many teams competing, Wil came in third place. In 2011, over 75 teams competed in the tournament. Wil is a freelance writer who has won awards for his work. He has had several pieces about ice fishing published in various magazines, including Ontario out of Doors, Outdoor Canada, Real Fishing, Big Jim’s Just Fishing, and In Fisherman.
More than three decades of service with the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources. He worked on several large initiatives, including the management of invasive species, the restoration of habitat, the stocking of fish, the gathering of eggs, and the monitoring of fisheries. He worked on plans for recreational fishing, economic impact studies, programs to teach people how to fish and urban fishing projects, as well as on promoting recreational fishing and maintaining media relations.
