White Plains Fire, Westchester County – On Tuesday, July 12, 2022, Fire officials responded to a structure fire in White Plains that destroyed a multi-family home and left several families homeless. According to the report, the fire broke out at the home at 140 Hale Avenue shortly after 8 a.m.
The fire broke out at the three-story house on Hale Avenue just before 8 a.m. Some of the neighbors, according to the locals, had to jump from a second-story window to escape the flames. Six people, including one who damaged their leg when jumping from the second level, reportedly needed to be transported to the hospital. At this point, the severity of the injuries is unknown. Four cats allegedly suffered injuries as well.
Police and firefighters arrived at the site in less than 30 seconds, said White Plains Police Commissioner David Chong. When they got there, the house was completely engulfed in flames. Six locals and four firefighters sustained injuries, but there were no recorded fatalities.
The house was totally ruined. The majority of people were able to leave on their own, however the brother of a third-floor tenant claims that his sibling had to leap from the window and is currently being treated in the hospital. The Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents on the spot. Calls for mutual assistance were sent out to neighboring municipalities in addition to the White Plains firemen. The fire’s origin has not yet been disclosed.
In a Facebook post, White Plains Public Safety announced road closures at Maple/Hale and Carhart/Hale. White Plains Professional Fire Fighters also advises people to avoid the area. Valhalla Ambulance Corps in a Facebook post said their fire rehab unit are helping their neighbors at Dekalb Ave & Carhart Ave in the City of White Plains for a working structure fire involving multiple houses.
The cause of the fire is yet to be made known by the fire officials. The estimated damages is yet to be known at the time of this publication.
