The incident was reported at the station just before 6 o’clock, according to initial reports. According to reports, the victim was found inside the station by responding authorities and was pronounced dead at the scene despite efforts to save their life.
Red Line service between Silver Spring and Glenmont is halted, and Wheaton Station is closed. For the impacted clients, a shuttle bus service is being arranged. “There was a confrontation between some individuals on the escalator, which led down to the platform, where shots were fired,” said Shiera Goff, director of public information for Montgomery County police. “The victim was part of that confrontation.” According to the transportation agency, Metrorail service on the Red Line between Forest Glen and Glenmont has been halted owing to a police investigation.
