Wayne Sims Death – Wayne Sims, the father of Wayde Sims who died during a fight near Southern University passed away. His son who was a basketball star was pronounced dead on 28 September 2018 while the father, Wayne Sims passed away on Tuesday, April 11, 2023. He died after collapsing at his place of employment. According to the officials, it appears that Wayne passed away from natural causes in his place of work.
What happened to Wayde Sims?
During the years 1987 to 1991, Wayne Sims was a member of the LSU Basketball team. On that team, he competed against players such as Shaquille O’Neal. Wayde, the father’s son, was killed in 2018 when he attempted to break up a fight on the street that was taking place just off the campus of Southern University. Authorities said that, a Baker man who was given a life sentence last week for the murder of LSU basketball player Wayde Sims overdosed on opiates while incarcerated at East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
A representative for the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office, Casey Rayborn Hicks, claimed that staff members discovered Dyteon Simpson, 23, unresponsive in a holding area with numerous inmates at around 8 p.m. on Sunday. Hicks reported that despite staff efforts, Simpson was pronounced dead.
Hicks stated that Simpson tested presumptively positive for Fentanyl, a potent synthetic opioid related to increased overdose deaths. Simpson’s body will be examined by the East Baton Rouge coroner. Hicks said the sheriff’s office is looking into how the drugs got into the facility. Simpson was found guilty of second-degree murder this spring for the September 2018 shooting death of Omar Sims, who was shot in the face with a 9 mm pistol. The case received widespread media coverage leading up to Simpson’s trial.
Authorities say 20-year-old Sims intervened in the altercation to protect a buddy. Approximately one block from Southern University’s A.W. Mumford Stadium, police were called to the area after midnight outside a Subway restaurant on Harding Boulevard. A gunshot wound to Sims’ head was discovered. A local hospital afterwards confirmed his death.
