Wayne Jackson Death – Wayne Jackson has passed away suddenly. He was confirmed dead on Monday, May 29, 2023. He died at the age of 96 leaving behind his family friends and loved ones who will dearly miss him devastated and heartbroken. Wayne was a Longtime WECT broadcaster where he began working in 1954, months before Hurricane Hazel hit. At this time, WECT was known as WMFD.

“Jackson was host of a 90-minute talk show called Relax with Jax interviewing sports icons. Jackson also was a sports anchor and station manager at WECT before retiring in in June 1989.” a recent statement confirmed on Tuesday, May 30, 2023.

Wayne Jackson was one of the pioneers of broadcasting in southeastern North Carolina, and he broke a lot of ground in his illustrious career. He was also one of the nicest people I’ve ever met.
