Wally Amos Net Worth $20 Million
Wally Amos spent most of his childhood in Tallahassee, Florida, with his parents until they split, following which he relocated to Manhattan, New York, with his aunt. He enrolled at the Food Trades Vocational High School after expressing an interest in cooking since a young age. He created his own chocolate chip cookie recipe while cooking with his aunt, Della Bryant.
He started serving in the US Air Force before matriculating, therefore he received his high school equivalency credential while he was in the service. He returned to New York after being honorably discharged from the service and resumed his education.
Following graduation, he went to work for the William Morris Agency, a Hollywood talent agency, where he found Diana Ross and the Supremes, as well as Simon & Garfunkel. His net worth was well established as a result of this job.
He worked for the William Morris Agency until 1967, when he quit to start his own personal management company in Los Angeles, California. Apart from that, he wanted to create a store to sell his chocolate chip cookies, but he had the financial means to do so, therefore the first Famous Amos cookie store didn’t open until 1975, on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles.
This business was highly successful, and it grew quickly, to the point where he established two more locations on the West Coast and in New York City within a few months, significantly increasing his net worth. In addition, he appears in the 1981 episode “Latka’s Cookies.”
Insecure business management cost him a lot of money in 1985, when he was forced to sell to the Shansby Group. In 1991, Wally attempted to start a new cookie firm under the moniker Wally Amos Presents Chip & Cookie, but the Shansby Group sued him for violating an agreement that he couldn’t use his name on any food packaging. However, another business purchased the Famous Amos brand in 1998, and he became their spokesperson.
Later, in the mid-1990s, Wally teamed up with Lou Avignone to form Uncle Wally’s Family of Muffins, which significantly increased his net worth. In addition, he launched Chip & Cookie, a new cookie firm. His financial well-being was restored.
Apart from his work as an entrepreneur, Wally is also known for hosting the adult reading television series “Learn To Read” and for being a member of the Literacy Volunteers of America project.
Wally is also the author of nine books, including “The Power in You” and “The Cookie Never Crumbles,” which have added to his fortune.
