Vindy Kohan Death – Bishop McCort High School Student Vindy Kohan of Johnstown, Pennsylvania has sadly passed away. She died on Saturday 29th July 2023 after fatal house fire that happened in Westmont on Wednesday 26th July 2023 that also left a 20-year-old man dead. In a devastating incident, a fatal early morning fire erupted in Westmont Borough, resulting in the loss of one life and five others being to the hospital for urgent medical attention.
How did the incident happen?
The heart-wrenching incident unfolded on the 200 block of Fayette Street around 2 a.m. on Wednesday, July 26, prompting a rapid response from a total of eight fire departments. Though specific details remain limited, the Westmont Fire Chief confirmed that multiple rescues were attempted amid the raging flames. Despite the valiant efforts of the emergency responders, one individual tragically succumbed to the fire’s ferocity. The five other victims were swiftly transported to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center to receive critical medical care.
In addition to the eight fire crews summoned to the scene, they were supported by over eight other dedicated EMS and medical teams, demonstrating the collective dedication of the community in times of crisis. As investigations into the cause of the fire continue, the community of Westmont Borough grapples with the sorrow and pain caused by this unfortunate incident.

Survived by loving mother, Katherine Jeanjaquet-Kohan and father Tyler Skovensky; loving siblings, Hailey Jeanjaquet and Tucker Skovensky; maternal grandmother, Armida Kimpton and husband Peter; Pappy John Kohan; Mima Kelly Skovensky-Smith; aunts and uncles, Glesie and Dan Briosos; Arnel and Keith Jeanjaquet; Jacklord and Mirosol Jeanjaquet; Richard Kohan; Christine Strauch-Kohan and children; beloved dog, Bruno; numerous cousins; and countless friends.
Family and friends will be received Friday August 4th from 2-8 p.m. at Hindman Funeral Homes & Crematory, Inc., 1521 Frankstown Rd. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Our Mother of Sorrows Church. Father Mark Begly, officiating. Interment to follow at Grandview Cemetery.
