After a high-speed chase that culminated in Pittsfield Township, a car crash left one individual dead and a mother and her two children with injuries. The police are currently conducting an investigation into the incident. On the evening of Saturday, May 6, a Saline police officer witnessed a dark vehicle with tinted windows driving dangerously while headed southbound on Ann Arbor Street near Harper. The incident occurred just before 8:30 p.m. The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the motorist sped away from Ann Arbor Street and onto Michigan Avenue heading in the opposite direction.
The driver then engaged in a high-speed pursuit, during which he crashed into another vehicle that was heading southbound on State Road. The Saline Police Department reports that the suspect’s vehicle flipped over, collided with a utility pole, and then caught fire after the collision. The Pittsfield Township Police Department and the Pittsfield Township Fire Department were both called to the scene of the accident. Upon arrival, they found that the motorist who had been involved in the pursuit with the Saline Police Department was there.
The identification of this motorist, who was pronounced deceased at the site, is currently being investigated by law enforcement officials. The three persons who were traveling in the vehicle headed south were transported to a nearby hospital. The woman, who is 43 years old and is from Milan, is said to be in serious condition by the police, while her two children, a boy who is 9 and a daughter who is 5, are said to be in stable condition. The accident is being looked into by the Accident Investigation Unit of the Pittsfield Township Police Department.
