Tragic collision in Midland County claims life, leaves others wounded: Monday night saw an accident in Midland County that left one guy dead and three others injured.
The Texas Department of Public Safety states that at approximately 6:30 p.m., 33-year-old Midlander Lorenzo Najera was pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident near the FM 1788 and CR-140 intersection. Three vehicles were in the accident: a 2020 Chevrolet 2500, a 2024 Peterbilt 567 towing a trailer, and a 2018 Ford F-150.At the moment of the incident, Najera was driving a Ford F-150.
Several car occupants received minor injuries treatment at Midland Memorial Hospital after being transported there by ambulance. According to the initial inquiry, 32-year-old Ford passenger Brenda Guerrero was treated for minor injuries. In addition to the three-year-old girl, Midland Memorial also received a ten-year-old female patient for minor injury care. According to preliminary traffic report information, the 2018 Ford F-150 was heading southward on FM-1788. In 2024, a hitched trailer was likewise in front of the 2018 Ford F-150 as it traveled southbound on FM-1788.
Driven north on FM-1788 was the third vehicle, a 2020 Chevrolet 2500. Having failed to safely pass the Peterbilt to the right, the 2018 Ford struck it on the left side. After that, the investigation says, the Ford’s driver lost control and struck the 2020 Chevrolet 2500 as it entered oncoming traffic. The 2018 Ford burned out and went off the road. After the incidence, Ford driver Najera was pronounced dead by the Midland County Death Investigator.
Apparently, 34-year-old Jared Todd was operating the Peterbilt close to Gulf Shores, Alabama. He reportedly escaped the entire incident unscathed. Records indicate that 64-year-old Midland resident Juan Diaz Veloz was operating the 2020 Chevrolet. He was sent to Midland Memorial Hospital with only minor injuries as well.
