Just before 1 p.m. Tuesday, a car incident involving a box truck and a Caltrans truck stalled traffic in the northbound lanes of I-5 in Redding, just north of Hilltop Drive. A box truck was driving in the right lane when it collided with the back of the Caltrans vehicle for unexplained reasons.
Two Caltrans employees, a 25-year-old Anderson male and a 66-year-old Bella Vista man, were taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. The box truck driver, a 40-year-old Sacramento male, was not sent to the hospital.
While the Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Teams (MAIT) investigated, the #2 lane was closed for many hours. The read has been opened again.
