The man who passed away in a deadly shooting outside a high-rise apartment building near Shuter and Sherbourne streets has been identified as the famous Regent Park music star’s brother. According to reports, Mustafa the Poet’s brother died after he was shot multiple times at approximately 12:15 p.m. The incident happened in the parking area of the apartment complex. Toronto Police say the victim was located inside a parked vehicle suffering from multiple gunshot injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene by responding law enforcement.
According to the police, officers patrolling the area were approached by a member of the public who informed them of gunfire coming from a neighboring parking lot. They arrived and saw the victim lifeless in a car. After interviewing several witnesses, police said they have concluded that the shooting was not random and that the victim knew the shooter(s). There have been no descriptions of suspects so yet.
We have no evidence to suggest this was a random shooting, but we do believe the suspects were at least acquainted with the victim. It is very early in the inquiry, so forensics officers are also looking over the scene. There is nothing in our records that raises suspicion. Inspector Peter Webbey told reporters, “We are asking for the public’s help, anybody with any kind of cameras, whether it’s on your home, your car, or cellphone video please contact Toronto police 51 Division.”
