Police and fire medics were called to the scene “in regard to a disturbance with a subject shot,” according to Capt. Saba Coleman. Law officers discovered the victim there, she added, and pronounced him dead on the scene from a gunshot wound.
Following the shooting, an MPD spokesman stated the suspect, Tre’Darrius Portis, 28, of Montgomery, was swiftly apprehended by an off-duty officer from an independent agency. Portis was still in possession of a weapon when he was apprehended, according to Coleman.
Coleman acknowledged that the victim and the suspect knew one other, but said the circumstances surrounding the shooting were still being investigated.
Portis is currently being jailed without bail at the Montgomery County Detention Facility on a capital murder accusation.
