What you need to know about Tom Stephen
Tom Stephen was a native of Toronto and played drums for Jeff Healey band from its early days in the 1980s until his untimely death of Jeff in 2008. In addition to being the lead singer and songwriter, Stephen was also the band’s manager throughout their spectacular rise to fame with the publication of their 1988 debut album, See The Light, which went on to sell multiple platinum and multi-gold records. He published a book that goes into great depth about what transpired.
Because of his tight relationship with Healey, Stephen had one of the best understandings of the guitarist of anyone in the world. In addition, he was one of Healey’s closest confidants. In the book, Healey is shown as amusing and devoted, with a sharp mind and impressive abilities. Stephen has done more than anyone else since Healey’s death to keep his memory alive (often at odds with Healey’s widow Cristie), and Best Seat In The House is a fascinating look behind the scenes of a genuinely unique Canadian rock and roll narrative for any fan.
Who was Jeff Healey?
Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Canadian musician Jeffrey Healey achieved widespread acclaim for his work as a singer, guitarist, and songwriter in the genres of blues, rock, and jazz. Healey was raised in the west end of the city of Toronto, which is located in Ontario, Canada, where he was born. His adoptive father was a member of the fire department, and he was adopted as an infant. Healey suffered vision loss at the age of almost one year old as a result of retinoblastoma, a rare kind of cancer that affects the eyes.
It was necessary to do surgery to remove both of his eyes, and he was afterwards fitted with ocular prostheses. When Healey was only three years old, he picked up the guitar and began perfecting the distinctive technique of playing the instrument while laying it flat on his lap. In an appearance on the children’s program Cucumber on TVOntario, he was interviewed when he was nine years old and demonstrated his musical abilities.
