Obituary: Former Scotland and British & Irish Lions prop has died – According to Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend, former Scotland prop, Tom Smith will be remembered as one of the best players to serve both his country and the British and Irish Lions.
According to bbc.com, Smith died at the age of 50 after being diagnosed with stage four colon cancer in 2019. He was a key player in Scotland’s 1999 Five Nations victory and the Lions’ 1997 series victory over world champions South Africa.

“He was a one-of-a-kind individual,” Townsend added. Former teammate and close friend Townsend said on Thursday’s Good Morning Scotland: “He was so tough, so skilled, and so resilient that he was able to play at a high level later in his career.”
