Squeegee Boy Shooting Baltimore, MD – According to witnesses and police, a 48-year-old man was fatally shot on Thursday, July 7, 2022, after confronting squeegee workers with a bat close to the Inner Harbor. Police were able to identify the man as Timothy Reynolds of Baltimore.
According to Baltimore Police Commissioner Michael Harrison, a driver and squeegee workers got into a heated argument, which led to a shooting that happened near the junction of Light and Conway streets around 4:38 p.m. The man pulled into a parking spot, pulled out a bat, and started swinging at one or more of the squeegee workers, according to Harrison.
One of the workers fired back, striking the driver fatally. The shooter ran away from the intersection on foot. According to Harrison, the driver was taken to a nearby hospital and later declared dead. The victim’s identity and hometown were released by the police on Friday.
Police had been called to the scene hours before the incident because of allegations of a squeegee worker in the vicinity carrying a gun. Harrison reported that they only detained one individual.
Teenagers from low-income neighborhoods make up the majority of squeegee workers, often known as squeegee kids, who clean drivers’ windshields at intersections for payment. Baltimore drivers have complained about them.
Mayor Brandon Scott was briefed on the “very complex situation.” according to Harrison. To put together what happened here and have evidence of what transpired, he said detectives are examining through video and searching for other cameras. “Detectives are reviewing video and looking for additional cameras “so we can piece together what happened here and have evidence of what happened.”
According to a statement by Mayor Brandon Scott, the investigation remain active at the moment and more details would be provided as the facts become clear. “I want to be very clear, if you are on the streets of Baltimore and endanger the safety of others or turn to violence to solve your problems, we will hold you accountable,” He added. “Regardless of what caused this incident, it is a sad reminder that far too often easily avoidable confrontations escalate into acts of violence.” He stated.
