North Vernon community~, Michael Glair Thayer was a beloved member of our family. He was predeceased by his parents, Dr. and Mrs. Benet William Thayer, as well as his siblings, Nancy Ellen and Terence Kelso. He is survived by his nieces Ann Avery, Jenny Bradshaw, and Gwyneth Thayer, as well as his nephews Alexander Thayer and Michael Baker. He is also survived by his grand-nieces and nephews Darien Siguenza, Bronwyn Bradshaw, Kelso Bradshaw, Kaila Thayer, and a new, expectant bright star soon to be born in June 2023, Kahlia Avonne.
Michael has a degree in Childhood Education from Manchester University, and he has taught young people with a lot of care and compassion in classrooms all throughout the United States, including North Vernon, Kentucky, New Mexico, and even for a year in the United Kingdom. Michael Thayer touched the lives of everyone in the North Vernon neighborhood and brought a lot of happiness to the people he helped as a volunteer for a wide variety of organizations, such as St. Vincent de Paul, the Red Cross, and Hospice of Jennings County. He passed away recently.
Every area would be illuminated by the warmth of his smile. When he came across a child, he would make an effort to treat that child with respect and make them feel like they were important. Michael possessed both an instinctive grasp of, and a unique manner of communicating with, people of all ages, particularly youngsters. Our son, brother, uncle, and friend will be greatly missed by all of us.
Michael liked everyone he came in contact with, and he had a warm spirit and a witty sense of humor. We took pleasure in each of our conversations, listening to his anecdotes about teaching, his travels, and the life events that had an impact on him. His curious and jovial dialogue demonstrated that the educator had never left him; he was always there. Michael Thayer leaves behind a legacy of service to others and the type of love provided to his fellow man that is unusual and will forever serve as our example of the lovely character he possessed. This legacy will live on as our example of Michael Thayer’s legacy.
