A Texas father of six was killed in a senseless act of gun violence last week while attending his daughter’s high school graduation party. The deadly shooting of Adam Tobias, age 35, took place on the front steps of a residence on Santa Cecilia Lane in Houston at approximately 4:15 a.m. on Friday, according to ABC13. Neftaly Perez, the distraught wife of Tobias, stated that their daughter Destiny, who referred to her father as her “best friend,” “held her dad’s lifeless body in her arms” after her father’s passing. Philip Arning, 24, is the person authorities believe to be responsible for the shooting. Arning is the ex-boyfriend of Tobias’s ex-partner, the mother of Destiny, who was graduating.
Arning is said to have started an argument regarding Tobias’s presence at the party, which was held at the residence of the former partner. But, “[Arning] shouldn’t have even been at the house,” Destiny said of the suspect, who was released on bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday. “He wasn’t supposed to be at my house, and now he’s walking free, while my father has disappeared for good.” “And he’s walking like nothing ever happened,” Destiny said of Arning. “And he’s walking like nothing ever happened.” According to Perez, the event has a traumatic effect on Destiny. “I’m sure she’s never going to get that out of her head,” she bemoaned. “I’m sure she’s never going to get that out of her head.” Tobias and Perez have been married for a total of 16 years when Destiny was born. Perez is Destiny’s stepmother.
At the time of the shooting, she and the couple’s five young sons were not present, and neither was she. “I’m going to be unable to visit my very best friend, who is also my sole friend. I won’t be exposed to his voice in any way. The sad widow vowed that she would not accept his kisses in the future. “He was present for his children at all times. Whatever the case may be.”
Destiny went on to recount the amazing moment that she and her father enjoyed in the hours before her father passed away, as well as her father’s pride in her.
There is now a GoFundMe page set up to assist the family in covering the costs associated with the funeral. On the same day, there will also be a benefit hosted on McCarty Street.
