After the mother drowned one of her daughters in their South Carolina home~, while also attempting to kill another child, The oldest daughter was awakened by cries and was able to save her sister a sheriff reported.
Following the attack early on Friday at their St. Helena Island home, Jamie Bradley Brun, 37, was charged with murder and attempted murder, Beaufort County Sheriff P.J. Tanner announced at a press conference. Tanner described it as a heinous act when Brun spoke with authorities, but he told reporters that he wouldn’t reveal Brun’s motivation for wanting to kill her children. “I’m not an expert on mental health. Finding out if someone has a mental health issue is not my responsibility, the sheriff declared.
Around 1:30 a.m. on Friday, Brun’s 16-year-old daughter was sound asleep when her 8-year-old sister’s screaming roused her. The girl’s cries were coming from the toilet, the sheriff claimed, but he did not elaborate on how the mother was attempting to drown her child. According to Tanner, the girl entered the bathroom, wrested her sister from her mother, and ran to a close relative’s home to dial 911. “I’m really pleased with her. I believe she did a fantastic job. When no one else was available, she stood up for her family, Tanner said. Her bravery is incredible.
Deputies discovered Brun and her 6-year-old daughter when they arrived eight minutes later. The girl was subsequently declared dead at the hospital after officers and paramedics tried CPR on her but were unable, according to the investigation. Officers used a Taser to subdue Brun when she attempted to seize a deputy’s gun as she was being apprehended, according to Tanner. Brun was detained without posting a bond. It wasn’t clear from the jail and court documents whether she had a counsel.
The sheriff reported that the 8-year-old and her teenage sister are being looked after by other family members and that she did not appear to be significantly hurt. Authorities had only once, around two years ago, been summoned to Brun’s home because a school official was worried about one of the children’s mental health. Brun had no prior arrests in South Carolina, according to Tanner. We have a lot more knowledge and information, but we are unable to disclose it at this time, according to Tanner.
