Ted Snell Death – The Western Australian communities are mourning the unexpected death of an honourary professor who passed away yesterday. Ted Snell, AM, CitWA was a former professor at Curtin University and Director of the Cultural Precinct at the University of Western Australia died after a brief illness. Following the news of the death, the Minister for Resources, Minister for Northern Australia, and Labor Member for BrandMadeleine King MP wrote; “I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Honorary Professor Ted Snell, AM CitWA.”
“Ted Snell, AM, CitWA, was born in 1949 in Geraldton, Western Australia. After completing an Associateship in Art Teaching, he traveled to England to undertake postgraduate study in Birmingham. He returned to Australia and began teaching part-time at WAIT (now Curtin University) where he was a Professor of Contemporary Art and Dean of Art, at John Curtin Gallery. In 2009 he was appointed as Director of the Cultural Precinct at the University of Western Australia.
He has been a commentator on the arts for ABC radio and television and The Australian and has contributed to local and national journals.
