Sunnyvale Shooting Investigations – At least two dozen police officers, and a helicopter are responding to a report of an active incident in Sunnyvale, Texas this morning. According to reports, law enforcement agencies have initiated a mandatory shelter-in-place for those near Collins Rd, and I-80 in Sunnyvale, TX., after a suspect ran into the woods armed with a weapon. According to reports, the armed suspect has been firing shots at responding officers. Police helicopters and other units are on the scene of the incident.
Following the active shooting incident, the Sunnyvale ISD has alerted all parents that school resumption hour for today Friday will be delayed for about two hours due to the ongoing incident.

Sunnyvale ISD has been in contact with Sunnyvale PD throughout the night regarding the status of the fugitive situation in the town. Our Police Department is confident of the suspect’s location but he has not yet been brought into custody.
In order to protect the safety of our families, SISD will be delaying start times by 2 hours this morning. This will allow police to continue their search and bring resolution to the situation without the traffic associated with school start. We anticipate buses will run 2 hours late and we will have normal operations at that time. Anticipate another release around 8 AM. Stay safe Raiders!
Update; law enforcement agencies say officers are still searching for the man who was reportedly shooting at officers in Sunnyvale/Mesquite area off 80 between Collins and Beltline.
UPDATE: 6:30 a.m.: According to law enforcement agencies, the incident started as an officer chase in Terrell. The desperate search is still going on this morning in Sunnyvale, where a man shot at police Thursday night and then ran away into a heavily wooded area near Highway 80 and Jobson Road. Police in Kaufman County were chasing a stolen car when the driver got out and ran into Sunnyvale, shooting at police as he fled. The search started just before 7 p.m., and the Meadowlake Subdivision was quickly told to shelter in place by Sunnyvale police.
SWAT teams were called in from nearby departments and at least as far away as Austin to help set up the perimeter. Searchers have used police helicopters, sniffer dogs, and equipment that can sense heat, but so far they haven’t found anything.
