According to local law officials, a couple has been charged with murder in connection with the death of the man’s granddaughter, who was reportedly physically assaulted before she passed away.
Jada Moore, a 5-year-old child, was discovered unconscious by the Park Forest Police Department (PFPD) when they arrived to her Park Forest, Illinois, home late on Friday night. The little child was brought to the hospital, where officers started CPR on her. However, doctors were unable to rescue her, and on Saturday morning, she passed away. According to the police, her grandpa Klent Elwoods, 62, and his wife Lisa Jones, 57, will both be arraigned in bail court at the Markham Courthouse on Monday on first-degree murder charges.
Moore, who reportedly had symptoms of prior cases of abuse, was allegedly physically abused by the pair, according to the PFPD. Newsweek has emailed PFPD to get further details and to leave a comment. The upsetting incident came after experts expressed concern about how pervasive child abuse is in the United States; a research released in July of last year speculated that school cancellations due to the COVID-19 outbreak may have enabled some incidents to go unreported.
