Groff is a native of Dallastown, Pennsylvania and was married to Julie Weidner Groff. Dr. Steven Groff, an outstanding orthopedic physician, was hit by a car while riding his bicycle in the fall of 2011, altering the trajectory of his life. His busy fifteen-year-old orthopedic surgery practice and leadership role at the Orthopedic Hospital could make life rather crazy, so he worked hard to achieve work-life balance.
Who Is Steve Groff?
Groff was a co-founder and president of OSS Orthopaedic Hospital in York, Pennsylvania. Simultaneously, he resided on his family’s 125-year-old, 77-acre farm near Dallastown, Pa. Because of the injury, he decided to concentrate his efforts on potential farm-based business ventures.
Wyndridge Farm was created by Groff and his family as an event space, restaurant, craft brewery, and cidery. Groff added hemp cultivation and production to his list in January 2019, making him an early adopter of the crop following its recent authorization in the 2018 Farm Bill. Wyndridge Farm became the Albright College Hemp Program’s exclusive producer and processor after obtaining a permit from the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture.

Wyndridge Farm is a varied, family-owned business that offers world-class event space, food, and craft beverages on a beautiful seventy-acre farm in York County, Pennsylvania. Groff now has 2,000 acres of hemp planted in contracted farms throughout the state. He claims that farmers in rural Pennsylvania, who have seen maize and soybean prices fall in recent years, want assistance. Growing this crop is nearly identical to growing hemp, and Groff understood that switching to producing hemp would be a simple transition for farmers.
Groff organized a hemp farmer supper earlier this year, which sold out with over 280 attendees. “[The event] drew] a lot more interest than we expected,” Groff said, explaining that “85-, 90-year-olds to millennials… all want to understand” how to get involved in the industrial hemp industry.
