Steve grew born in Honolulu with two brothers and a sister. His father was a lawyer and his mother was an elementary school teacher; his father was one of the founders of the law firm Case, Lombardi & Petit. Steve received his education at the Punahou School before enrolling at the private Williams College in Williamstown in 1976 and graduating in 1980 with a bachelor’s degree in political science.

Steve got a job as an assistant manager at Procter & Gamble shortly after completing his schooling, and stayed there for two years. Following that, he worked as a manager of new pizza marketing for Pizza Hut Inc., a Kansas-based company. Both of these jobs helped him build his net worth in the outset.

Dan, Steve’s brother, was an investment banker at the time and knew a few important individuals, finally connecting Steve to Bill von Meister, the CEO of Control Video Corporation. Steve was then hired as a marketing consultant before being promoted to full-time marketing. The Control Video Corporation, on the other hand, went bankrupt, but Jim Kimsey created a new company out of its ashes, Quantum Computer Services. Steve was named vice president of marketing in 1985, and two years later, he was promoted to executive vice president, boosting his net worth even further.

After Kimsey opted to retire, Steve became the company’s CEO four years later, and then chairman in 1995. Since then, the company’s name has been changed to America Online, and then reduced to AOL, and its value and popularity have skyrocketed, as has Steve’s net worth.

It combined with Time Warner in 2001 to form the world’s largest media conglomerate, with a $164 billion valuation. After a series of accounting issues, the merger broke apart after two years, and Case stepped down as chairman of AOL, though he remained on the board until 2005.

Along with Donn Davis and Tige Savage, Steve launched the Revolution LLC, an investment firm, in 2005, which increased Steve’s net worth even more, and it has since become his primary source of wealth. ZipCar, which was purchased for $500 million by Revolution LLC, and LivingSocial are two of the company’s most prominent investments. BenchPrep, Optoro, Bigcommerce, and a slew of additional start-ups and businesses are among the other investments.

Steve was married to Joanne Barker from 1985 until 1996, and the couple has three children. They met while in college and married in 1985. Steve married Jean Villanueva, a senior executive at AOL at the time, two years later. They have a home in McLean, Virginia, where Jacqueline Bouvier grew up. They also have Steve’s and Jean’s children from past marriages living with them.

Steve is also well-known for his philanthropic endeavors, as he and his wife joined the ‘The Giving Pledge,’ which was formed by Bill Gates and Warren Buffett, among others, in 2011. Steve also gave the Punahou School a $10 million donation.
