Sorry to hear that Coach Steve Brown- a great coach and friend from OABCIG passed away today. He loved the game of basketball like no other. Always a great guy to talk to and would travel for any kid or team to watch. RIP Steve. You will be missed.

So sad to hear this. What a great guy! My Coach Brown story is this: Years ago I was driving by myself to Ida Grove to referee a game. As I was arriving on the outskirts of town, three deer came out of the ditch. I missed the first two but the third one grazed the front of my car. Seemed like nothing too serious and I needed to get to the gym. When I got there, Coach Brown greeted me and I spilled out my excitement about my ‘run in’ with the deer. After the game, he walked me to my car to check it out. I’d lost the license plate and one of the headlights was not working. So the deer had roughed my car up a little bit. Coach insisted that he follow me to the spot where it happened. The deer was not there. We figured it was only slightly phased by the run in so that it could then run off. But we did find my license plate by the side of the road.
I was very grateful that Coach was looking out for me that night. And forever after that, he would greet me with,’Have you been dodging any deer lately?!’
RIP Coach Steve Brown
