The 29-year-old, who played as a defender and holding midfielder and has been at the KwaZulu-Natal club since 2020, was known as ‘Spepe’ by his colleagues and supporters. He played the entirety of the match against Chiefs, who emerged victorious with a 1-0 victory at King Zwelithini Stadium. As a result of the loss, the KwaZulu-Natal club fell to sixth place on the DStv Premiership standings. Due to a chronic ailment, Mtolo was out for the duration of the season.

He led the team to victory in the Motsepe Foundation Championship the previous season, which earned them promotion to the DStv Premiership, the highest level of competition in South African rugby. After recovering from the injury, he made his way onto the pitch during the second half of Bay’s 1-0 victory over Swallows on December 31, 2022.

Even though his knee was extensively bandaged, he was given the nod to start for Bay when they played home to Mamelodi Sundowns in the game after that. His passing came after he had played for Bay in eight league matches during the current campaign. Mtolo played in a total of 155 matches after joining the club at the beginning of the 2020/21 season after spending the previous three years playing for Uthongathi. The staff here at iDiski Times would like to extend our deepest condolences to Mtolo’s family and friends, as well as to everyone at Richards Bay and the football community in general.

His cause of death is yet to be released to the public by the family members. Condolences are been sent to the Richards Bay Football Club, family members and fans of Siphamandla Mtolo, Richards Bay Football Club star midfielder.
