Chicago downtown shooting today – On Saturday after a comparable gathering occurred at 31st Street Beach, Chicago police responded to large numbers of teens at Millennium Park on Saturday night. This prompted police to increase their presence along the lakefront. Video captured Saturday night revealed a significant presence at the park along with sizable crowds nearby. A teenager was shot during a similar gathering that occurred Friday night close to 31st Street Beach, which eventually came to an end.
Following the distribution of flyers for a gathering of youths on social media, hundreds of teenagers—possibly even thousands—gathered at the beach. Just before 9 o’clock, a 14-year-old boy was shot in the leg, bringing the gathering to an end. Numerous teenagers were forced to flee by the gunshots, which also caused fear on the beach.
Additional information on the event was not provided by police, but they did note that they “continually monitor and adjust resources as necessary so residents and visitors can safely enjoy the city, including our beaches and lakefront area.” No cops were hurt, according to the police, but a squad car was also damaged. A 17-year-old youngster who is accused of numerous firearms offenses was the only individual the police did manage to apprehend on Friday night.
