Victim discovered dead her house in Oklahoma alongside her injured husband – Black Wall Street Chamber of Commerce president Sherry Gamble Smith and her husband were injured and police were informed about the incident that happened on Wednesday morning. The incident happened outside of the city of Tulsa, Oklahoma. The police were informed about the incident the suburb of Bixby, home of Black Wall Street Chamber of Commerce president on July 6th, 2022. The police arrived as soon as they could to the place of the incident.
According to independent.co.uk, the incident was reported around 8:05 a.m. on Wednesday morning to the Bixby police and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation. The officials were notified after a call to 911 from someone that was inside the house of Smith. The Bixby police and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation team are still investigating the incident. Seth Adcock of the Bixby Police Department explained that “It appears to be domestic in nature but the investigation is still underway to determine the timeline and what lead to this tragedy.”
Police are not currently searching for a suspect. The incident is being looked into by the police in Bixby and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation. The state police have been approached by The Independent for comment. People who knew Smith said that she was devoted to celebrating Black heritage and giving back to the Tulsa community. She frequently oversaw Juneteenth celebrations in the city. The 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre is said to be a part of the name given to the group. A lynch mob of white people burnt and pillaged Greenwood, Oklahoma, on June 1, 1921.
This area of Tulsa was dubbed “Black Wall Street” due to the large percentage of African American-owned businesses there. Up to 300 people may have died, and 35 city blocks were completely destroyed by fire. Ken Levit, executive director of the Tulsa-area George Kaiser Family Foundation wrote on Twitter on Wednesday about Smith as a wonderful and a warm and wonderful human being. Their cause of death is still under investigation.
