According to the South Yorkshire Police Department, Shoreham Street in Sheffield City Centre is closed today Sunday 10 July 2022, as police investigate multiple reports of attacks in the area. Emergency services were summoned at approximately 3.30 am following reports that several persons had been hurt on Shoreham Street, the department says.
It is stated that a vehicle was in collision with several individuals and caused multiple damages to a building, before leaving the area. According to the department, a lot of individuals were located suffering from multiple injuries consistent with a vehicle crash at the scene. The unidentified persons have been transported to some area hospitals where their condition remains currently unknown at this time.
According to the South Yorkshire Police, the vehicle involved in this incident has subsequently been discovered and retrieved by responding officials. Details in connection to the driver of the vehicle were not immediately disclosed. It was not immediately confirmed if the vehicle had occupants during the crash.
An inquiry is underway into the circumstances surrounding the occurrence and is at its very early stages. There is no allegation at this time that there is a wider risk to the public nor is the incident considered to be linked to terrorism. According to the department, the scene which is located on Shoreham Street will likely remain closed for some time to allow officers/detectives to carry out all the necessary investigations in connection to this incident.
