A number of officers with the Louisville Metro Police Department responded to an officer-involved shooting early Sunday night. According to the department, a man shot an officer with the Louisville Metro Police Department.
The incident happened near Shawnee Park. According to the spokesperson for the Louisville Metro Police Department, Alicia Smiley said that at approximately 8 o’clock in the evening, officers approached a man known to have warrants in the west Louisville park during a basketball game.
According to Smiley, the suspect opened fire on the officers, striking one of them in the chest. The injured officer who was confirmed to have been slightly grazed by a bullet was transported to an area hospital for treatment. According to wdrb.com, multiple witnesses have identified the shooter as Herbert Lee. The site also stated that Herbert Lee was previously convicted in connection to the death of four teens.

Herbert Lee was said to be the driver of the vehicle involved in the crash. P.S. The Louisville Metro Police Department confirmed the vehicle Lee drove was a stolen vehicle. According to the Louisville Metro Police Department, Lee was shot by responding police officers. His current status is unknown, however, he was transferred to University Hospital.
Responding officers recovered a weapon from the scene, the department. In 2008, when Lee was 16 years old, he crashed a stolen automobile while evading police and killed four teens who had been told to ride home with him from a youth event. In 2014, Lee admitted to causing another police pursuit in a vehicle he had stolen.
