Two have been charged in the death of a 25-year-old Yordi Arevalo of Newport who was fatally shot and killed early Monday at a social club.
The suspects for this crime identified by authorities as Shamik Steele, 30, and Xavier Perry, 28, were said to have been arrested and charged with first-degree murder, murder conspiracy, felony assault with a dangerous weapon, and possession of a firearm during a violent crime, according to Tuesday press release by Newport police.
According to report by Newportri, the victim, Arevalo died from numerous gunshot wounds. A second victim, identified by police as Aroldo M. Noel Paniaqua, 30, of Newport, was released with minor injuries caused by gunshot wounds.
Court records listed a Tiverton address for Steele, while police listed a Newport address. Both court and police records listed a Providence address for Perry.
Steele and Perry were arraigned in Newport District Court on Tuesday and are being held without bail at the Adult Correctional Institutions in Cranston. Neither man entered pleas to any of the charges.
A warrant for a third man, 46-year-old Duane Logan, has been issued, though his whereabouts are unknown, police say.
