Sandy Jones Death – Sandy Jones has died. The Pipe Major founding member was pronounced dead on Sunday, March 5, 2023. His death has highly devastated and saddened the hearts of many since the learning of his death. Currently, Sandy’s cause of death is still unknown and no update as been given regarding what killed the Pipe Major member.
Plenty of tributes have flown since the announcement of his death. Northern American Academy of Piping and Drumming mourned the death of Sandy in a Facebook posts. During the time of his death, Sandy was surrounded by his loved ones. The Academy has asked the public to keep the family of Sandy, especially his wife, Dorcas in their prayers.
The Atlanta Pipping and Drumming Foundation have also paid their respects to Sandy sending their prayers, condolences and thoughts to his family: “Sadly, word has come in that Sandy Jones has passed. Condolences and prayers for the family. More information as it comes in. You will know Sandy from the North American Academy of Piping and Drumming and the Sandy Jones Invitational.”

He travels around North America giving seminars, playing at recitals, and presiding over highland sports. He just retired from The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina, where he had been teaching bagpipes for 25 years. The Grandfather Mountain Highland Games and the Charleston Scottish Games are where he is now involved. When Sandy competed in the Glenfiddich Solo Piping Competition in Blair Atholl, Scotland, in 2017, she received the renowned Balvenie Medal.
The Charleston Pipe Band’s musical director was Sandy Jones. At the time of his retirement in 2003 until his death, he was also known as Pipe Major Emeritus. Our area now has a vibrant pipe culture as a direct result of Sandy’s leadership, remarkable talent, and excitement. Players of many generations have been motivated by his relentless efforts and passion to developing the art of Great Highland Bagpipe performance.
Individuals who had the good fortune to get Sandy’s teaching frequently experienced considerable success in their musical undertakings.
