The Swarthmore Fire Department crews and the Wallingford authorities were called to the scene of a reported motor vehicle accident in the greater Philadelphia region around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday evening. Officials claim that as a result of the event, they were forced to close the northbound lanes of Interstate 476 at Baltimore Pike for a significant amount of time. Both vehicles had significant damage and required to be evacuated from the scene, and as a result, one of the vehicles ran off the road as a direct result of the collision.

It was alleged that one individual was unable to free themselves from one of the automobiles until rescue workers used a spreader and cutting tools to free them.
