Obituary: Roy Roberts Obituary, Longtime Walton GOP Leader Dies At 81 – Roy Nunnally Roberts Sr., the Walton County Republican Party’s longstanding chairman, died Wednesday morning. He was 81 years old when he died. Funeral plans have yet to be revealed.

According to waltontribune.com, Walton was proudly dubbed “the most Republican county in Georgia” by Roberts. His family’s farm hosted an annual BBQ that drew hundreds of party supporters — and politicians hoping to court favor with them.

At the 2006 BBQ, then-Gov. Sonny Perdue declared, “All of you coming out in Walton County… this is what it’s all about.” In 2012, Nathan Deal, Perdue’s successor, dubbed it “perhaps one of the greatest meetings in the state of Georgia for the Republican Party.”
