Emma Potter, 40, was found dead at her apartment in Stroud, Gloucestershire, by police on November 4, and Joe Rankin, 34, admitted to killing her. Rankin only spoke once during the brief hearing at Bristol Crown Court to identify his identity and make a plea to the charge that he killed Ms. Potter between September 19 and November 5, 2022. The Recorder of Bristol, Judge Peter Blair KC, informed the court that Rankin had a history of mental illness.

His psychiatric history is significant to the position of sentence, although it has been made clear that the issue of diminished culpability has not been addressed and cannot provide him with a defense. Prior to the June 16 sentencing date, the judge mandated that psychiatric reports be prepared.

You will receive a life sentence, as your attorneys have already explained to you. The question is how long you must spend before becoming eligible for release. Rankin was kept in detention and is a resident of Langtoft Road in Slad, Stroud, Gloucestershire.

Rose Duncan obituary and funeral arrangements will be released by family members
