According to his wife Toddy Stander’s Facebook, former boxer Ron “The Bluffs Butcher” Stander died early Tuesday morning. The Bluffs Butcher’s nickname comes from Stander’s hometown of Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Stander was a boxer who competed from 1969 to 1982, most notably in a world heavyweight championship bout against Joe Frazier at Omaha’s Civic Auditorium.
The ringside doctors declared that he couldn’t properly defend himself due to blood from a cut pouring into his eye, and he lost the match on May 25, 1972.
According to his wife’s Facebook page, Stander’s funeral arrangements are pending. He was a much-loved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many people.
Please help put his family in your prayers.
