Ron Russitano passed away
Phantom Of The Attic Greentree is a comic book store in Green Tree, Pennsylvania, which is owned by Ron Russitano. The Oakland district of Pittsburgh is home to Phantom of the Attic, where you may satisfy your comic book and gaming requirements. Phantom of the Attic (Monroeville) shared on Facebook that “yesterday, Ron Russitano (owner of the Phantom of the Attic store in Greentree) passed away. For the last 33 years, we’ve shared a bond as comic shop owners (and shared a store name — along with the Phantom in Oakland) when we purchased our individual stores.”
Located in the shadow of Fort Pitt, Ron’s “Phantom of the Attic” comic and memorabilia businesses would be up for business for over 30 years. There, he met many people he would come to consider friends and colleagues. Under Greg Sirb’s leadership, Russitano served as the State Athletic Commission’s Deputy Commissioner.
“Ron was a major player for the PA Athletic Commission,” Sirb noted in an email. “[He] was one of the first Inspectors I hired in 1992. He rose to become my chief Inspector in Western Pennsylvania and was universally admired.” Andy “Kid” DePaul and the other officials at the State Athletic Commission left an unforgettable mark on his life. In 2022, Russitano would accept the plaque honoring DePaul’s posthumous induction into the Keystone State Wrestling Alliance Hall of Fame.
Russitano would later become fast friends with famed grapplers Bruno Sammartino and Dominic DeNucci. Russitano frequently worked for the Commission at World Wrestling Federation (now WWE) events in Pittsburgh. Condolences are been sent to the family members and friends of Ron Russitano.
