Robert Landford Obituary, Death – Robert Landford “Lanny” English passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 11, 2022. He was 78. Lanny was born in Plains, Georgia, to the late William and Ida Benford English. After graduating from Plains High School in 1962, he continued his education at Mercer University for two years then graduated from Valdosta State College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry. He met and married the love of his life, Mary Virginia “Gini” Davis.
Lanny proudly served our country in the U.S. Air Force where he retired as Lt. Colonel after twenty years of service. During that time, he earned his Master’s of Business Administration from Webster State College. After his time with the military, Lanny was employed with Northrop Grumman in Perry from 1987 to 1996.
He then became the founder, owner, and President of Fire Protection Services, also in Perry. He was a member of Fire Protection Engineers, American Fire Inspectors Association, and the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies.
Lanny enjoyed golfing, sailing, and playing blackjack with his grandchildren. He loved socializing and the Wednesday night dinner group at Houston Lake Country Club. He was a member of Perry United Methodist Church.
Lanny was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Millard English and Chris English. Left to cherish the memories they made with Lanny are his loving and devoted wife of fifty-six years, Gini Davis English of Kathleen; his son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Julie English of Slidell, Louisiana; his daughter and son-in-law, Andrea and Chris Hall of Woodstock; his grandchildren, Alex English (Ashley), Selby English, Davis Hall, and Devyn Hall; his brother, Steve English (Beth) of Vienna, GA; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Watson-Hunt Funeral Home in Perry. Following the service, a reception to celebrate Lanny’s life will be held from 3:00 until 5:00 p.m. at Houston Lake Country Club.
