Robert Kerker, a 67-year-old man from Rhinebeck, New York was discovered along the Stony Brook in Stockbridge on Friday afternoon. The location of the discovery was approximately 1.5 miles downstream from where the route crossed the brook. After receiving a report from a witness who claimed to have seen Mr. Kerker at the Stony stream Shelter on the Appalachian Trail on the evening of July 9, crews had focused their efforts on the stream on Friday.

The witness stated that the unprecedented flooding in Vermont that began on July 10 caused the water levels on Stony Brook to rise, which made it hazardous for the route to cross the stream. The cause of his death is yet to be released by the officials who did their best to locate missing 67-year-old Robert Kerker.

The efforts to locate Mr. Kerker’s remains on Friday afternoon included participation from the Vermont State Police Search and Rescue Team, Killington Search and Rescue, the Killington Police Department, the Vermont Department of Motor Vehicles, and New England K9 Search and Rescue. All of these organizations are located in Killington, Vermont. The body was sent to the office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Burlington so that an autopsy could be performed there to ascertain the cause of death as well as the manner in which it occurred.

His death is not being investigated as suspicious by the police. They believe there is a connection between it and the heavy flooding. According to what they stated, Kerker was a seasoned hiker who started his journey on the Appalachian Trail on June 1 near Bear Mountain, New York. The investigation is still going on at this time.
