In April of this year, a man who is now 29 years old is suspected of shooting and killing a member of an opposing gang in the north of Minneapolis. On Friday, Donta Brown was arraigned in Hennepin County District Court on two counts of second-degree murder charges. On April 9, there was a party at a residence in the 1800 block of Russell Avenue that had “dozens to hundreds” of people, as stated in the documents that were used in the charging process. The victim, whose name was eventually determined to be Quinntrail Young, 34 years old, observed a woman attempting to steal money while climbing out of a bedroom window.
Young walked outside to search for the woman, but he was unsuccessful in his efforts to find her. According to the records, he walked back to the house and bent down to tie his shoe before entering. According to the accusations, it was when Brown stepped outside of the house, retrieved a revolver from his pocket, and shot Young twice in the head and neck. Young was sent to the hospital, but he did not survive his stay there. The location data from Brown’s cell phone was able to be linked to the scene of the crime by the police.
Brown is alleged to be a well-known member of the hybrid street gang known as “SUB,” which is a branch of the Lows and operates south of Broadway Avenue, according to the charging documents. Their most serious competitor is known as “YNT,” and they are based north of Broadway Avenue. “YNT” is an offshoot of the Highs. According to the records, Young was a well-known member of YNT. In a statement made after the Miranda hearing, Brown denied that he had been to the residence. He is being kept in custody with a bond set at one million dollars.
