Reports state that Richard Bryant died from injuries sustained in the accident.
The second driver, who has not yet been named, was taken to Duke Hospital and is in severe condition, according to reports. All northbound lanes of North Carolina Highway 55 and one southbound lane were closed until 6:45 p.m. while police examined the scene of the accident. The police claim that the investigation into the crash is ongoing and that no charges have been brought at this time.
