A collision that occurred on Monday afternoon in North Wilmington, Delaware, just outside of a car wash claimed the lives of two victims. The collision took place in the 200 block of Philadelphia Pike at approximately 4:44 in the afternoon. State troopers have reported that the driver of a Volkswagen Jetta was attempting to make a left turn into the White Glove Car Wash when the driver was struck by a pickup truck driven by a Dodge Ram that was traveling in the opposite direction.
The driver of the pickup truck was reportedly moving “at a high rate of speed,” according to the police. The Jetta was forced off the road and into the parking lot, where it collided with a Mercedes. Both of the people who were inside the Jetta passed away in the crash on Monday afternoon.
The victims include a man from Chester, Pennsylvania who is 42 years old and a woman from Wilmington who is 34 years old. According to the authorities, neither of the victims was using a safety belt. Their identities have not been made public pending notification of their families. Both the driver of the pickup truck, a man from Philadelphia who was 29 years old, and his passenger were sent to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The disability does not seem to be a factor, according to the police. Despite the fact that police claim they are still in the preliminary phases of their investigation, no charges have been filed. Condolences are been sent to the family members.
