Prairie View A&M University Shooting Today – A shooting in an apartment complex early on Thursday, June 15, 2023, left one Prairie View A&M student dead and three others injured. At 5:30 a.m., Prairie View police were called to The Gates of Prairie View at 625 Elm St. in response to a shooting report. Officers arrived on the scene and discovered a young woman deceased from a gunshot wound. According to the police, the woman was pals with another woman who was shot and was entering her senior year at Prairie View A&M.
Assault prompted shooting outside apartment complex
According to investigators, the incident began when a man entered his girlfriend’s residence nearby and assaulted her. According to Chief Wilton White Jr. of The Gates of Prairie View, the girlfriend then traveled there to inform her pal. According to the police, the woman’s boyfriend followed her to the apartment building. They got into a fight outdoors as soon as they got there.
The friend who resided in the apartment building and her boyfriend, a security guard, eventually made their way downstairs to observe what was happening. Before going downstairs, the friend’s boyfriend picked up his gun, according to White. The two boyfriends got into a fight. At that point, according to the police, the suspect in the assault on his girlfriend drew a gun and began shooting. Investigators claim that the security guard then retaliated.
Victims transported to hospital
The woman’s acquaintance was struck by one of the shots. According to police, three further victims were shot. One individual received a grazing wound to the head, one received a shot to the buttocks, and one person received two shots—one to the upper chest and one to the lower leg. The three shooting victims were all transferred to nearby hospitals. Some of the injuries, according to police, were significant, while others weren’t. The young woman was later declared deceased on the scene.
When police arrived, according to investigators, two individuals fled the area but were later apprehended elsewhere. Police stated that it’s unclear who actually fired the shot that killed the student because both males were armed. Police in Prairie View are being helped in their investigation by Texas Rangers.
