Police are searching for young suspects after crash that killed teen: Columbus police are looking for the young males who fled the scene shortly after the crash, while friends and family grieve for the adolescent who was killed in the collision on the city’s west side.
Haleigh Abshire, 14, lost her life on Tuesday afternoon after an SUV and a car crashed and started a fire close to the intersection of West Mound Street and Highland Avenue.
Following the collision, three young boys were seen running and jumping a fence in the backyard, according to a neighbor who spoke with ABC 6. There are also other reports of persons fleeing the site in the crash report. ABC 6 is attempting to ascertain whether both of the vehicles involved in the collision were stolen as the police hunt them down. One neighbor remarked, “Whoever is in the SUV, their life has been changed forever.” “I don’t think these young men have any idea what they’ve done.”
The SUV contained a lifeless body of Abshire. Tuesday night, her friends came to the scene of the crash for a vigil. Vanessa Cantrell stated, “She can’t live anymore, she can’t get married, she can’t see to have kids.” “I can’t see what she’s going to grow up and look like.”
Someone who was nearby was struck by debris from the accident; they were brought to the hospital and are currently recovering. The car is thought to have been taken from West High School shortly before the collision, a police source informed ABC 6.
